There are many ways LGBTQIA+ individuals and couples build families. Depending on your goals, medical considerations, and personal preferences, your journey may include one or more of the following:​​​

Egg donation may be part of the family-building process for:

• Male same-sex couples

• Trans women

• Non-binary individuals

• Lesbian couples when donor eggs are needed

• Individuals without viable eggs

Donor eggs allow intended parents to work with a gestational surrogate or carry a pregnancy themselves, depending on the circumstances.

Gestational Surrogacy

Gestational surrogacy is commonly used by:

• Male same-sex couples

• Single intended fathers

• Trans women

• Non-binary individuals

• Individuals unable to carry a pregnancy

In gestational surrogacy, an embryo created using donor eggs, intended parent sperm, or both is transferred to a gestational surrogate who carries the pregnancy.

Reciprocal IVF (Shared Motherhood)

Some female same-sex couples choose reciprocal IVF, where:

• One partner provides the eggs

• The other partner carries the pregnancy
