Become a Surrogate

What to expect during the gestational surrogacy journey

Becoming a gestational surrogate is a meaningful and life-changing experience. At Premiere Family Coordination, we guide you through each step with clear communication, thoughtful support, and careful coordination so you always feel informed and confident.

Below is an overview of what the surrogacy process typically looks like.

Surrogate Pre-Screening

Once your application is approved, the pre-screening process begins. This stage helps ensure you’re fully prepared for a smooth and successful surrogacy journey.

Medical Record Review

We’ll ask you to request records from your previous pregnancies, including prenatal and delivery records, as well as your most recent Pap results. These are reviewed by a fertility specialist to confirm eligibility.

Background Check

A standard background check is completed for you and any adults living in your household.

Drug Screening

You’ll receive lab instructions to complete a routine drug screening at a location near you.

Insurance Review

We’ll review your current health insurance to determine whether it covers surrogacy. If not, we’ll help coordinate a surrogacy-specific policy.

Surrogate Profile

You’ll complete a simple profile that allows intended parents to get to know you. Before matching, you’ll also receive information about the intended parents so you can ensure the match feels right for you as well.

Introductory Call

You’ll connect with your coordinator to review the process, ask questions, and talk through the type of relationship you’d feel most comfortable having with intended parents.

Agency Agreement

Because the agency invests in the screening process, surrogates are asked to sign an agreement confirming their commitment to moving forward with our program.

What Happens After You’re Matched

Once you’re matched with intended parents, we guide you through the next steps of the journey.

Psychological Evaluation

You’ll complete a psychological screening with a licensed mental health professional to ensure you feel fully prepared and supported.

Medical Evaluation

You’ll attend a medical appointment at the fertility clinic (or a local monitoring clinic) for lab work, an ultrasound, and a physical exam. Once approved, you’ll receive medical clearance to proceed.

Legal Agreement

You’ll be represented by your own attorney, who will review the gestational surrogacy contract with you. You’ll have the opportunity to ask questions and request revisions before signing.

Once all parties agree, legal clearance is provided to the fertility clinic.

Preparing for the Embryo Transfer

After legal clearance, the fertility clinic provides a detailed schedule outlining medications and appointments leading up to the embryo transfer.

Medications may include:

  • Birth control

  • Estrogen

  • Progesterone

You’ll be guided through each step so you feel comfortable and supported throughout the process.

Embryo Transfer

The embryo transfer is an exciting milestone in the surrogacy journey.

If travel is required, we coordinate all arrangements for you and a companion. The procedure itself is quick, does not require anesthesia, and typically involves minimal discomfort.

All travel expenses are covered by intended parents.

What to expect after the embryo transfer

Post-Transfer Medications

You’ll continue taking medications as instructed by the fertility clinic to support early pregnancy.

Pregnancy Test

Approximately two weeks after the embryo transfer, you’ll complete a pregnancy test at a local clinic.

First Ultrasound

If the test is positive, an ultrasound is scheduled a few weeks later to confirm the pregnancy and detect a heartbeat.

Supporting You Through Pregnancy

Once pregnancy is confirmed, you’ll transition into routine prenatal care with your OB provider.

Throughout your pregnancy, we remain in close contact to ensure you feel supported, informed, and cared for. All agreed-upon expenses — including maternity needs, travel, childcare support, and compensation — are coordinated and covered according to your agreement.

A Positive Journey

Surrogacy is a deeply meaningful journey, and our role is to help make it as smooth, supported, and positive as possible. From your first application through delivery, we’re here to guide you every step of the way.
